Stezaker was born in England in 1949 and currently lives and works in London. He studied at the Slade School of fine art in London in the 1960s and has installed at Central Saint Martins School of Art, Goldsmiths College, and the Royal College of art. Stezaker is one of the leading artists in modern photographic collagen appropriation. Employing vintage photographs, old Hollywood film stills, travel postcards and other printed matter, Stezaker creates seductive and fascinating small format colleges that bad qualities of surrealism, dada, and found art. His work has exhibited in many different places such as national portrait Gallery in London, the Tate modern in London, the Whitechapel Gallery in London, Tel Aviv Museum of Art which is in Israel, i’m also in many other countries such as Australia, Amsterdam, America, China and also Italy.

he was fascinated by the law of images which is by taking classic movies deals, vintage postcards and book illustrations and it also makes colleges to give old images a new meaning. By adjusting, inverting and slicing separate pictures together to create unique new works of art he explores the subversives force of found images. One of the specific works which is called the dark star series turns public city portrait in the cut out silhouette, creating an ambiguous presence in the place of absence celebrity.

The reason why I have chosen the specific artist is because in our project we were asked to create collages using the magazines we were asked to bring in to develop our paintings and while on the tate modern visit i came across Stezakers work who had an exact similar style for what i was doing in my work. I really enjoyed incorporating his style into my own flow of ideas and putting it into my own direction which has benefitted me as an artist to create more conceptual work and less intricate realistic drawings.

This will be a key artist which i will keep referring to when im doing my painting as collage and painting is something which i really enjoyed, in my work ive added meaning to work by looking at nature, political viewpoints and also broken architecture and how the world is crushing down.
